What’s the difference between CSR, sustainability, and ESG?
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is an approach where companies voluntarily commit to acting ethically, considering the interests of society and the environment in their operations.
Sustainability is the integration of long-term thinking into a company’s strategy to ensure steady growth without harming people or the planet. It is a broader strategic paradigm that encompasses CSR.
ESG is a tool for assessing risks and opportunities from the perspective of sustainability.
These terms are often used interchangeably, especially sustainability and ESG.
Is sustainability education available at universities in Ukraine?
Not yet in Ukraine, but abroad. And you can also get a scholarship to study abroad (based on my experience).
Can I build a sustainability career from scratch?
Absolutely. Also, if you have experience in environmental science or HR, it will be easier for you to start and choose your direction within this profession.
Do I need to know all aspects of sustainability — social, environmental, and governance?
You need to have a general understanding of all three aspects, but you don’t have to specialize in all of them. You can choose a specialization based on your interests and purpose.
Is non-financial reporting mandatory in Ukraine?
Not yet, but if you enter the EU market, it may become mandatory depending on factors such as revenue, number of employees, etc. Additionally, foreign investors and lenders are interested in it because non-financial risks and reporting transparency are important to them.
